As molecular biology, biochemistry, and genetics advance, nutrition has become more focused on metabolism and metabolic pathways – biochemical steps through which substances inside us are transformed from one form to another. Cellular health means physical health.
Nutrition also focuses on how diseases, conditions, and problems can be prevented or reduced with a healthy diet.
Nutrition is the study of nutrients in food, how the body uses nutrients, and the relationship between diet, health, and disease.
There is a lot of overlap between what nutritionists and dietitians do and study. As a nutritionist, my goal is to identify and assess your physical symptoms and diagnosis, and customise an eating plan to ensure optimal health and healing. People will visit a nutritionist for many different reasons ranging from skin conditions, fertility optimisation, treatment of auto immune conditions and weight loss are just a few.
As a Nutritionist, I am able to prescribe supplements to correct deficiencies and support the body in healing and balancing itself.
Nutritional medicine looks at all the body systems and the nutrients required for each system to work. For example, neurological pathways require nutrients to function properly, and many conditions that are considered psychological can be improved with supplements and dietary changes.
The food you eat is important to your health. As a nutritionist I am an expert in foods and diet and can help you understand how to eat food in a way that will help you be more healthy.
I will work with you to understand how changing your diet will help you achieve your health goals.
There are many different health conditions that can be treated in part with changes in diet, including:
- High blood pressure (hypertension)
- Being overweight
- Being underweight
- High cholesterol
- Heart disease
